The Mission
Oganizasyon Sante popilè (OSAPO) is a non-profit organization founded in 2007. Its mission is to enhance the quality of health conditions of women and men in rural areas without doing harm to the environment. OSAPO is promoting reproductive health and family planning methods, the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) as well as the fight against mother and child mortality, paludism, malaria and tuberculosis. OSAPO is composed of medical doctors, nurses and other professionals working in the field of community development in Haiti.
In 2007, OSAPO started with the realization of mobile clinics in the locality of Rousseau, near Montrouis, a communal section of Arcahaie, around 100 km north of the capital Port-au-Prince. During the first day the team of OSAPO received around 1.300 persons, 80 % of which women and children. Only one year later the archives of the organization show that 27.600 persons had already benefited from the medical services of OSAPO.
Given the impact of the mobile clinics OSAPO decided to launch a project for the construction of a health care center in Rousseau with their own financial resources in order to provide adequate health services to the population in this area. After the earthquake the 12th of January 2010, the Center started to provide healthcare to his target population and thousands of people from Port-au-Prince to refuge in this area. Actually, despite of lack of resources, thousands of people are received basic medical services everyday grace of the contribution of some friends..
